The aim of Destination: College AmeriCorps is to promote college awareness amongst elementary, middle and high school aged youth by supporting the educational outreach efforts of partners including the Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP); the Cal Corps Public Service Center; Berkeley High School; DUSTY; the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP); Life Academy; School-University Partnerships (SUP); Stiles Hall; Youth Radio; and the Y-Scholars Program; this AmeriCorps program places members throughout the Bay Area in academic support positions.
This partnership was formed to address the critical need to support and enhance efforts to promote college eligibility of Bay Area youth. Destination: College AmeriCorps members are placed with one of the partner sites supporting their specific outreach programs, while coming together for training and reflection coordinated through the Cal Corps Public Service Center. What do Destination: College members receive?
Members receive a monthly living allowance of $460.00 and an educational award upon completion of the program to offset educational expenses. The $1250 Education Award for 450-hour position. Full-time members have a 9-10 month commitment, with a $1980 monthly stipend and $4750 Education Award.
Members will participate in extensive training opportunities to promote their leadership development, career and graduate school opportunities, and personal skills development.
Members will gain valuable experience planning and carrying out programs that improve educational opportunities for youth while also developing teaching, program management, and professional skills; engage in exciting discussions around diversity, equity, educational reform, and social justice; and participate in two National Days of Service to expand their service experience.
College AmeriCorps
