To help meet the demand for University-assigned, graduate student housing, Stanford is temporarily leasing units from two nearby, off-campus apartment complexes that it in turn sublets to continuing and new graduate students at substantially reduced rental rates. Leasing and assignment of apartments are being coordinated by Community Housing, with financial support from the Provost. Housing for a minimum of 130 students will be provided for the 2008-09 academic year. Stanford is in the process of phasing out this program, as the Munger Graduate Residences will be open and ready for full occupancy by the beginning of the 2009-10 academic year. Current residents who will continue to be matriculated students for 2008-09 and have at least one remaining year of priority for student housing were able to renew their contracts for 2008-09. The remaining spaces will be assigned to other graduate students, with priority going to students who went through the on-campus graduate housing Lottery but were unable to get an assignment to on-camus housing.
