By now, I guess you have heard the word diversity in Berkeley. It seemed that Berkeley's diversity concept avoids the basic goal of fostering cultural tolerance and understanding. Instead, it encourages a divisive culture of victim hood and entitlement. I cannot understand why students are housed according to race which to me seemed to encourage racial division. It seemed that there are floors cater for a particular race group. There are floors for the African American Theme Program, the Asian Pacific American Theme Program, and the Latino-centered Casa Magdalena Mora. Even though students of all races and ethnicities are allowed to live in any themed housing units, rarely did I see students living in housing centered on a culture different from their own. With the benefits of living in a racially themed housing unit such as field trips, retreats, and dinner with faculty, I think it will make the students think twice to live somewhere else. I really hope Berkeley would do something about this soon as we wouldn't want it to be known as a racial entity!
